Lianjiang Zhu (b. 1997, Wenzhou, China) is a London-based artist working with moving image, installation, and performance.
His practice examines how systems of encoding and recognition shape existence by structuring what becomes visible and acknowledged. He treats images not as representations but as processes that translate and reorganise subjects.
Through delay, substitution, obstruction, and material translation, He creates conditions in which presence becomes unstable and subjects become replaceable. His works propose that recognition is never neutral: every structure that enables visibility also produces exclusion. What cannot be recognised does not disappear; it remains latent, structurally present yet unseen.
He received his BFA in Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts Bologna, Italy (2021) and MA in Print from the Royal College of Art, London (2024).
Recent awards and residencies includes: Swatch Art Peace Hotel Artist Residency, Shanghai (2025), Aesthetica Art Prize Longlist, UK (2025), and the Second Prize Winner at Kunstverein Hof, Germany (2024). His work has been exhibited or screened at Xi’an Art Museum (2025), the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (2024), Cité internationale des arts, Paris (2024), Kunstverein Hof (2024), and Southwark Park Galleries, London (2024).
